 OLIVIA

Olivia is a singer/songwriter from Orlando, Florida who writes indie folk rock songs and sings about things she says she “never intended to tell strangers.”

The youngest of four kids and daughter to an English teacher and a literary writer, Barton was a sensitive and musical child who quickly took to songwriting. She grew up listening to the best of dad rock, aka Bruce Springsteen and The Eagles, and folk classics like James Taylor and Indigo Girls. Her influences have evolved over time into indie folk rock artists like Elliott Smith, Angel Olsen, Pinegrove, and Phoebe Bridgers.

Olivia's debut album will be released mid 2019. All but two songs on the album were written in various dorm rooms and Boston apartments while Olivia attended Berklee College of Music. It was there that she met bassist and co-producer Victor Pacek, and co-producer Isaiah Beard. Together they decided upon a direction for the debut record that is rooted in sensitivity and space, leading them away from conventional recording studios and into Victor's house in Newton, MA. Done almost entirely in live, one take recordings of Olivia singing and playing guitar in front of a single microphone, each song breathes with the room in which it was recorded. Heavy electric guitars, sweeping background vocals, melodic banjo, and spacious drums are sprinkled throughout the record, enhancing the tension and release built into the backbone of each song. The result is a hauntingly beautiful window into a young woman’s most intimate admissions.
